Against Me! performed at Hobart’s Brisbane Hotel as part of a national tour earlier this month. 

The four-piece performed songs from their 2016 record, Shape Shift With Me, as well as tracks from across their seven album back catalogue. 

Long-time fans formed spontaneous friendships with new faces as crowd-surfers were nudged across Hobart’s sold-out venue.

In an interview prior to their Hobart performance, guitarist James Bowman said the band had one rule that applied to every gig.

“It’s just a general rule of being a human – don’t be an idiot and keep your hands to yourself,” Mr Bowman said.

Bowman said putting a setlist together had become a rough task for the band, which formed in 1997.

He said the popularity of punk rock had ebbed and flowed, however, Against Me! received consistent support in Tasmania. 

“It’s important to know as many songs as possible from your catalogue so if somebody comes up to you in the street to request a song, or someone sends you a tweet requesting a song you can accommodate those people,” Bowman said.

“It's also important to mix it up every night so it doesn’t become stale and shows don’t blur together.”

Against Me! performed with support from Melbourne rock trio Camp Cope and Launceston’s Bansheeland. 

Bansheeland have hinted at plans they will release new music in the near future.
