Under the proposal, the Trevallyn Power station would remain open and the silt would instead be removed through a canal on the river’s western side.
Greens Senator for Tasmania Peter Whish-Wilson is hosting the event, which will focus on why the current efforts to fix the silt problems of the Tamar are not working and how this may be a viable long-term solution.
Independent researcher Ian Kidd is among those scheduled to speak at the session and said the research regarding the idea had progressed.
“The proposal has been mentioned by various people in the community before, but this is the first time the numbers have been crunched,” he said.
“We know how much silt would be removed which allows for a more confident social view of the idea.”
The event is on at the Tailrace Centre, Riverside, Wednesday May 17 at 7pm.
