There was a time when the very idea of Josh Deeble releasing a solo record looked fanciful at best.

Following the split of his band The Wild Comforts in 2015, the Melbourne singer-songwriter resolved to give up music altogether - a decision he stuck by for more than a year.
But a change of heart led him to book in studio time at an analogue recording studio in February this year, which led to the birth of his debut EP Forever Blue.
Having abstained from songwriting for more than a year, Deeble spent two months writing new songs before taking to the studio with the help of two session musicians; a pianist and a pedal steel guitarist.
Deeble said recording to tape had helped capture the songs in a unique way.
“I always wanted to record analogue rather than digital so I found this place in Castlemaine,” he said.
“It was weird for me recording that way because before I’d always done digital and you have unlimited takes to get the part right and you can do everything separately, so there was a lot of pressure.
“There are mistakes in the EP but some of them are nice mistakes - it definitely captured something you wouldn’t usually capture recording digitally.
“Everyone was allowed one mistake per song and everyone used that which was great.”
Deeble will kick off a tour of eastern Australia on Friday with a show at the Kingsway Bar in Launceston.
The gig will be followed by a shows in Hobart, the Huon Valley and Burnie before the tour continues on to the mainland.
Deeble said while the shows would be his first time playing in Tasmania, the state already held special significance.
“I went to Tasmania for the first time at the end of last year with my girlfirend-now-fiancee, we got engaged over there - we’d been together for nine years so it was about time.
“I’m looking forward to going there because last time I was there it was for a holiday and we just spent time in Hobart, but now I’m looking forward to seeing Launny and Burnie.”
Josh Deeble will play at The Kingsway Bar at 8pm on Friday.
