LINC Tasmania has endeavoured to create a ‘community lounge room’ for Longford and the surrounding region.
The site was closed to enable the new technology to be installed and painting, carpeting and joinery to take place. Volunteers and staff also underwent further training.
The new look community facility will include sofas couches and a meeting room.
The library has also created a tutoring space to enable volunteer adult literacy tutoring a welcoming, safe and friendly space an education department spokesman said.
“LINC Tasmania is part of the 26TEN initiative and improving the reading and writing skills of adult Tasmanians is part of our role,” he said.
The children’s space has been doubled to allow for weekly programs to be delivered to local toddlers, babies, parents and carers.
“We believe getting children interested in reading at an early age sets them up well for the future,” the spokesman said.
The LINC staff have also been trained to link family history and heritage resources within the organisation so they can provide the information to those interested.
The update cost about $44,000.

The new-look library will also include a small art gallery.
“In July, we will have a range of framed images of Longford, Hadspen, Cressy, Evandale and Perth (sourced from LINC Tasmania’s historical collections) on display,” the spokesperson said.
