Dragons Abreast Northern Tasmania is holding its 10 year reunion on Saturday, May 20.
Since forming in 2007 the club has welcomed breast cancer survivors as well as supporters to experience the therapeutic benefits of paddle boating, all while making lasting friendships and promoting awareness.
The idea for the reunion was born when the club’s original committee reconnected to sign memorabilia, an event prompted by North Esk Dragon Boat Club president Craig Binns.
Attendees will have the opportunity to partake in a short paddle together in the ‘Tamar Tittilator’ and enjoy a morning tea, where organisers are excited to meet again with those who they have lost touch with throughout the years.
Club president Beth Sowter knows firsthand the positive impact paddle boating can have, particularly as a breast cancer survivor.
“It’s given me purpose, it’s given me empowerment and I am very, very proud to be a pink paddler.”
“I think it's physically saved my life - and mentally.”
Committee member and club supporter Ros Lewis is urging those who have been involved in the club to get in touch.
“While we've heard from a lot of past members, we haven't heard from everyone,” she said.
