Considering logistics coordination alone, it’s easy to forgive Launceston groups The Embers and The Bad Dad Orchestra for never having played together before.

The five-piece and nine-piece bands will break that statistic on Saturday when they pair up for a show at The Royal Oak, which Bad Dad drummer Luke Young has tipped to be a sweaty but fun-packed affair.
“We’re all really good friends and have been talking about doing a gig together for some time now, but the timing has always been wrong,” Young said.
“Between the two bands, there are 14 working musicians, 11 of whom have kids, so it can be extremely difficult to get everyone together at once.
“Having said that, (Bad Dad organist) Elliot was already booked for another show, so we’ve got his dad Miles sitting in for the evening.”
Young said 2017 had already been a massive year for the Bad Dads, with the first four months featuring festival shows, a new film clip and a trip to Flinders Island.
“The initial idea was for the band to be kind of like a men's shed for fathers who are working musicians.
“No agenda, just jamming and hanging out with some like minded people... there has always been lots of chatting, laughing and dad talk.”
Doors open at 9pm.
Entry is $10 per person.
