Having made the move from Melbourne about five years ago, Carydakis will release an eight-track offering titled Will I See You Again in December.
The saxophonist said he hoped the record would both encourage aspiring regional musicians to pursue their passion, and also pay tribute to those who nurtured his talent.
“I guess it’s inspired by family,” Carydakis said.
“It’s really about my mother and father, they’re deceased now but they came to this country as immigrants and they gave us all the opportunity in the world to do what we wanted.
“It’s about that loss and that question about will you ever get to see the people you love again, and that’s how it started.”
The album’s production has also been steeped in family roots, with Carydakis’ twin brother Stephan taking on the roles of bass player and co-producer, and nephew Nicholas and niece Katherine Vjero both contributing on the album’s title track.
Stephan is also expected to perform as part of the band when the album is launched at the turn of the new year.
Carydakis, who works full time as a credit analyst, also thanked his wife Teena for supporting his passion for music.
“(Music) wasn’t really front and centre, but when I moved to Launceston my wife really encouraged me to do it.
“She was good enough to encourage me and say ‘do what you used to do in Melbourne’, so over the first few years here I built up a lot of venues that I used to work at, we used to travel all around the state.
“Every second week we’d be in Hobart gigging down in Salamanca somewhere whether it was the Cargo Bar The Winston, some Sundays at the Republic Bar and Mona very frequently.”
Carydakis has had to put gigs to one side while he works on the album, but is still planning to play shows where he can.
In the meantime, he has set up a crowdfunding page to help finance the mixing and mastering of the album.
