The two rugby clubs are coming off opposite ends of form last week.
The Vikings thrashed newcomers Burnie 120-7, while Launceston surrendered meekly 108-0 to Devonport.
But club stalwart James Erwin believes the form guide should be thrown out so early in the season.
"The Launceston derby, between the AMC Vikings and the Launceston Bees, has always been an exciting fixture for both sides,” he said.
“These matches are always hotly contested, and season form is usually overlooked when it comes to the derby, as both clubs step up their performances.”
The university-based side has been co-tenants with its Launceston crosstown rivals at Royal Park during its entire Tasmanian Rugby Union playing existence.
But the Vikings have been able to secure its own home training ground this year on its Newnham campus.
“We are currently using the field for training purposes, which has been fantastic for both our club and the University,” Erwin said.
“It has allowed further exposure of rugby within the University of Tasmania.”
VIkings play host to the Bees at Royal Park for a 7pm kickoff.
