Good Friday AFL
IT IS curious that Robert Lee (The Examiner, April 13) objects to the AFL playing a match late on Good Friday afternoon given that local leagues in many states, including here in Tasmania, have been playing matches on Good Friday for many years.

Not only that, the National Rugby League, Super Rugby and A-League have also been playing matches on Good Friday for quite some time. As rightfully pointed out in the The Examiner last year (March 27) Australia is a secular society and it was more than overdue that the AFL finally started to schedule matches on Good Friday.
It was almost beyond belief I could attend a football game in Launceston on this day and able to watch every other football code on TV but unable to watch an AFL game due to archaic views. That has now been rectified and as an added bonus the match is directly linked to the Good Friday Appeal.

Anzac Service
I WOULD like to congratulate and thank Taxi Combined and their volunteer drivers for the wonderful service offered to veterans for the Launceston Anzac parade and service.
The service given by them enables incapacitated veterans such as my father, Bob, 95, to be able to attend the service. This is such an important day in the lives of veterans and to be able to attend on Anzac Day is a highlight, and talked about for many days to come. The attentive care and respect from these volunteer drivers is to be truly commended. Thank you, Phillip.
