The plan will consider future infrastructure needs as well as transport logistics, water supply, and sewerage management.

East Coast Tourism, Parks and Wildlife, the Glamorgan-Spring Bay Council, and the Freycinet Tourism Group will be involved in the creation of the Freycinet Master Plan.

Environment and Parks Minister Matthew Groom said the area was expected to exceed 300,000 visitors annually for the first time.

​”We must properly plan and invest in infrastructure to ensure a sustainable future for Freycinet,” he said.

Mr Groom said there would also be $100,000 within the upcoming budget to fix up the Wineglass Bay access road.

Greens tourism spokeswoman Andrea Dawkins said the state needed to ensure its national parks were protected into the future.

“We can’t risk killing the goose that laid the golden egg,” she said.

“The future of the East Coast lies in well-managed tourism, agriculture and marine industries.”

Labor tourism spokesman Scott Bacon said regional Tasmania faced ongoing pressure in sustaining quality visitor experiences and building facilities to suit tourist demand.

“The best that Mr Groom has been able to come up with today after more than three years in government is a plan to plan for future facilities with vague references to vitally-needed infrastructure including roads and water and sewerage management.” he said
