Launceston mayor Albert Van Zetten said there was a fifty-fifty chance the new signage would be installed in time for Hawthorn’s round 21 clash with North Melbourne on August 13.
“We’ve gone to tender now so we’re hoping toward the end of this (football season), but whether we can get it done before the last game… will depend on the tender and how they do it,” Alderman Van Zetten said.
“All the other AFL grounds have got (LED fencing) - especially those that have four games like we do... when you have the four games it’s really a requirement.”
Treasurer Peter Gutwein said the new signage would help the stadium attract more events and consequently drive economic growth in the city.
“What this will do is ensure that we can compete for Big Bash games,” Mr Gutwein said.
“But importantly, there are many regional stadiums around the country that have already taken steps to include electronic signage, so this will ensure that UTAS Stadium maintains the mantle of being the best regional stadium in the country.”
