Police said the injured man was a 33-year-old from New South Wales.
He was driving a white Toyota Camry sedan when he crossed into the other lane while negotiating a serious bend near Black Charlies Opening at Orielton.
He ended up in the path of an unladen Mack fuel truck, which was being driven by a 40-year-old man from Chigwell.
The truck driver was not injured as a result of the crash, but the NSW man’s legs were trapped in the car.
Police and emergency services attended and managed to release him from the vehicle.
He was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital and treated for his injuries.
UPDATE 1.05pm:
The Tasman Highway at Orielton is now open to all traffic following this morning’s two-vehicle crash.
One person was taken to hospital with suspected lower leg injuries.
UPDATE 10.50am:
Police have advised the Tasman Highway at Orielton is completely blocked.
The crash occurred north of Thornton Drive.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
EARLIER:
A man is trapped after a truck and a car crashed on the Tasman Highway at Orielton in the state’s South.
Police and emergency services are at the scene.
The trapped occupant is believed to have sustained lower leg injuries.
Police have advised motorists there will be some delays and disruption while the incident is cleared.
