On Wednesday the ground was blanketed with thin ice.
At the summit the temperature fell to zero degrees on Thursday, and it is expected to drop into the minus numbers within the next week.
While the light snow has been beautiful, Ben Lomond Snow Sports manager Geoff Foot is not reading into it.
“In a lot of cases we do get an early fall like that,” he said.
“It’s usually gone within two or three days but it does show the ground is cooling down which is a good thing.”
Mr Foot said the early snow did not indicate how much would fall when the season goes into full swing in June and July.
“You just can’t predict it,” he said.
The fall has drawn interest from people, who Mr Foot said, were ready to hit the snow.
“People are waiting, they’re getting keen now,” he said.
“On the weekend you see quite a few people at the summit and there’s quite a few working bees going on.”
Despite the early snow Mr Foot still expects the season to begin about the middle of June.
Launceston and its surrounds woke to a single-digit temperature on Thursday morning before hitting a top of 16 degrees under blue skies.
Friday will be warmer with a top of 19 degrees and a low of nine degrees.
Saturday and Sunday are expected to be warm, but cloudy.
