If so, Launceston bar Cinco Passiones may have developed the perfect remedy – an open mic piano bar.

In what could be the classiest combination of keyboards and cocktails yet conceived, Sing-co will give Launcestonians the chance to sing on stage with the backing of a house pianist.

Cinco Passiones owner Drew Burns said the concept had been developed by two of the bar’s regular customers. 

“It’s not karaoke as such, but we have a lovely lady on the keyboard who is magnificent with music, she’ll read and play anything that’s put in front of her,” Mr Burns said.

“We’re not a big venue but that makes it a little bit more intimate and enjoyable I think.”

Sing-co’s debut instalment will be on Sunday evening, with participants encouraged to arrive at 6pm to register their interest and submit sheet music.  

Mr Burns said he expected the event would offer performers a laid-back but supportive environment to strut their stuff on stage.  

“The idea was to include everyone when they’re comfortable and it’s not a hugely structured evening but it might just be a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon early evening with a bit of warmth and a glass of sparkling.  

“We’re hoping it’ll be a regular monthly thing, once a month would be nice just to give people a chance to brush up in their A-game and see how they go.”

Cinco Passiones opens at 4pm on Sunday.
