After the narrowest of losses last year to the South, the strong northern line up includes five Launceston players, Cam Bell, Brett Churchill, Mitch Van Noord, Matthew Long and captain Greg Longmore. They are joined by Drew Ponting and James Pyke from Mowbray and Jarryd Collis of Prospect Vale.
The North plays the North West on Saturday, Southern Country on Sunday morning and then potentially the decider against the South on Sunday afternoon.
The South lines up with Andrew Phillips, Paul Read, Nathan Gatehouse, Richard Kube, Mark Schulze, captain, David Pretyman, Matthew Glover and Craig Garland.
The North West has Cam Allen, Anthony Glozier, Craig Walker, captain, Greg Leedham, Craig Hancock, Mathew Rose, Joel Lunson and Caleb Webster. The Southern Country team is Dijon Barrett, Matthew Cross, Bernie Klasen, Ashley Kline, John Ramsden, Bill Wellington, Roger Styles and captain is Drew Roberts.
The Southern women defend the North versus South plate also at Launceston Golf Club on Saturday with foursomes followed by singles matches on Sunday. Southern captain Sue Richardson has Leslie Bick, Julia Goss, Zahara Lemon, Rachael Coombe, Pamela Chen, Sally Eastwood, Hallie Maeburn, Debbie Taylor, and Jane Hyland.
The North has a very strong team capable of regaining the trophy this year. Captain Amanda Smith is joined by Sarah Johnstone, Rosemary Paton, Sharon Crowden, Jackie Poke, Lu Proud, Maree Fish, Lily Caelli, Deidre Panton and Tammy Hall.
Daniel Smith is Launceston Golf Club’s new resident Golf Professional replacing Kevin Conlong who returned to Victoria.
Daniel is currently assistant professional at Heidelberg Golf Club arriving from Kew Golf Club as a trainee in 2014. He is a former primary school teacher and UTAS Launceston graduate who played pennant for Mowbray and worked in the Pro Shop in 2008. He commences at Launceston on June 1.
In Junior news the Junior Committee will hold an 18-hole stableford and 9-hole or less event for beginners at Mowbray on Friday commencing at 9am. Meanwhile 12 juniors have taken up membership at the Riverside following Swan Golf clinics at Riverside High School.
