Launceston, welcoming the return of Lynette Stebbings and Narelle Neilson kept their composure and were rewarded with a goal late in the third quarter. Marians’ Petrina Birtwistle and Sophie Johnson worked hard but were unable to convert.
Devonport hosted Smith-ton at home in the inaugural Vicki Bennett Memorial match. The younger players in both teams stepped and Smithton were off to an early start with a goal from Darcey Smith.
Devonport’s Bec Bentley and Ella Slatter worked hard to give Devonport scoring opportunities. Rachel Bentley scored in the second half of the game, but Smithton hit back with a second goal to win. The Vicki Bennett Memorial medal went to Smithton’s Sonia Poke.
West Devonport continued their winning streak beating Tamar Churinga. Ella Bishop, Zoe Groves and Lucy Wootton gave West an early 3-0 lead as Tamar struggled to organise its defensive structure.
Tamar’s Claire Deavin and Anna Crawford were crucial in stemming West's attack.
Shenae Wilson's speed allowed Tamar to sneak their only goal for the game however, West Devonport scored again in the final quarter, leaving with a 4-1 win.
South Launceston and South Burnie rounded out the weekend in Launceston. South Burnie’s Isabelle O’Connor and Jen Phillips found their way through Launceston’s defense on multiple occasions, the 8-1 win proving South Burnie too strong for a depleted Launceston.
