Suzuki-mounted Travers won each of his round 1, modern unlimited-class heats, but he was not the only rider to finish with 100 points. Fellow Launcestonian Jason Spencer, who races a Honda in the modern 600cc class, also went home with a perfect scorecard.
Daniel Mulholland, of Sheffield, was another with four wins on his 400cc Historic-class Kawasaki, a feat equalled by Ulveratone’s Dave McCullagh on his 1000cc Period 6 FZR Yamaha in the larger capacity historic category. Legana’s Paul Smith enjoyed a clean sweep of wins in the 250cc historic class on his Little Honda and one the same bike, shared the honours with RS 125 Honda-mounted James Weeding in the modern 250cc class, with two wins and two seconds each.
Hobart’s Larry Eaton rode his single-cylinder, 700cc Husqvarna super motard to victory in all four Formula 3 heats, a class that caters for a broad range of differing engine capacities and configurations.
While Sunday’s event gives the leading riders a chance to tighten their grips on their respective classes, those further down will be hoping to close the gap.
It is also round 2 of the re-introduced interclub championship, in which TMCC and Southern-based Sport Riders Club of Tasmania members compete for state bragging rights. Close racing is assured, at least in the unlimited modern class, where Travers trails Hobart’s Brett Simmons by just three points after the opening round at Baskerville last month.
