Held at the Country Club in Prospect, the competition attracted about 70 competitors, most from Tasmania but 10 from interstate.
Event organiser Glenn Gattallero said this year the competition had been deliberately focused on highlighting the quality of Tasmanian athletes.
“It’s been extremely high [quality],” he said.
“A lot of them have done it last year and been motivated, and others have seen it last year and been there going ‘gee I’m doing it next year’.
“It’s a very inspirational sport.”
Gattallero said while the sport may have a reputation of being a vanity competition focused on the athlete alone, it can be a community-focused sport with teams of people supporting a competitor through the intensive training process and weeks of preparation.
Many competitors preceded their entry to the stage with a message of thanks to family, friends and their trainers, who cheered them on from the audience.
A number of athletes were taking part in their first competition, and were met with warm applause as their took to the stage for the first time.
The competition ran all day and acts as a qualifier for the WFF Universe 2017 to be held in Brazil in June.
Gattallero said the strength of this year’s competition may see next year’s AWA Tasmanian Classic turn pro-amateur, and expand to hold events in both Launceston and Hobart.
