Launceston City resume equal leadership in early stages of the Northern Championship

Launceston City regained a claim of the shared lead in the Northern Championship on the back of a 2-1 victory over Riverside Olympic.

Irishman Scott Mahony and youngster Nick Thorne found winners to give City a vital three points over their crosstown opponents.

The fourth win from five matches has lifted City equal on points, but still behind Somerset on goal difference.

Devonport City inflicted Somerset’s first defeat of the year in a 4-2 result.

The Strikers’ have also pushed up to 12 points, only trailing Launceston City on goals scored in a tight three-way battle at the top.

Launceston United made a statement to lift the winless side off the bottom of the championship table.

United’s first points came via a 5-0 home thumping over a hapless Burnie.

Ulverstone scored a vital away goal in its 1-0 win over Northern Rangers.

Rangers’ loss has pushed the side down a spot to fifth.
