Cavs have held an advantage over Burnie in recent seasons but the coastal side appear to be on the improve this season after a solid performance last week against Karana.
After their opening round against OHA, Cavaliers coach Dannie Carstens was pleased with the efforts of her new look team, and saw positive performances across the court.
“We walked away as a group very impressed at the way our relatively ‘new’ team gelled together and stuck to our game plan,” Carstens said.
“There were some solid individual performances across the team – but in particular, Rachael Smith and Issy Maskell combined well in defence, Dana Lester provided a consistent work rate and intensity in the mid-court, and the transition of Jamie Easter into the open’s competition after a year in 19’s with Hawks in 2016 were all really exciting to see so early in the season.”
After coming off a bye in round two Cavaliers will be looking to switch on early in the match to control and shut down the visiting coastal team.
“We are looking once again this week to settle quickly into combinations and adapt to what we envisage will be a very different style of play from Burnie,” Carstens said.
“The goalers, midcourt and defensive units will have to make sure that they are persisting with our structures on court.
“And we will be looking to our leadership group of Kate Gibson, Lydia Coote, Dana Lester and Rachel Smith to step up and lead the way for the rest of the group.”
