Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten hosted the ceremony formally recognising the 29 new citizens.
“On behalf of our community in Launceston I welcome and congratulate the new citizens who have made this important decision to officially become Australians,” he said.
“Some of the conferees may have lived in Australia and contributed to our society in many ways already, others may only have been here for a relatively short time.
“No matter what the circumstance, it is great to see so many people join our community officially by making their pledges.
“The conferees who will officially become Australians will add to the diversity of our culture and enrich the fabric of our community.”
Alderman van Zetten said those who became citizens on Tuesday came from a number of countries including India, the United Kingdom, Bhutan, Nepal and South Korea.
