Monitoring and investigations section leader Peter Cremasco said the work was in response to fox sighting reports and confirmation in May that a fox-positive scat had been collected.
"The monitoring program will involve carnivore scat surveys being carried out by both people and scat detector dog teams," Mr Cremasco said.
"Letters are being sent to Bruny Island landowners requesting permission for people and dogs to undertake scat surveys on their property."
All residents and visitors to Bruny Island have been encouraged to be vigilant for foxes and immediately report any fox sightings or signs of fox activity to the 24 hour hotline on 1300 369 688.
Seven fox sighting reports have been received from Bruny Island during the past three years, including a highly credible sighting report in the past month.
There has been no explanation for how foxes may have got to the island.
