The tin was raising money for three-year-old Isla Wells, who has Apert Syndrome.
King of Kebabs’ Baba Noor said the back door of the shop was forced open on Thursday night and the thief crawled across the floor in an attempt to avoid the security camera. It’s the third break-in for the shop in the past two years.
Security camera footage shows the thief stealing the coin drawer from the cash register, taking the donation tin off the counter and leaving. Mr Noor said staff were particularly upset about the theft of the donation tin.
Isla’s mother Kylie Wells said the theft was upsetting for her family, who regularly have to fly to Melbourne for Isla’s surgeries.
“It was a bit of a shock really, they’ve been so good to Isla and myself, they’re beautiful people,” Ms Wells said.
“It’s heartbreaking to know that somebody has been that low and taken money that’s for somebody else.”
Mr Noor said police attended and took fingerprints from the broken door.
