CAPTAIN: Brayden Webb
LAST SEASON: Premier
INS: Zac Webster, Harry Parker, Lachie Barwick, Nate Newman, Josh Davey, Dylan Green, Adrian Peach.
OUTS: Daniel Muir, Clinton French, Daniel Joseph, Jordan Hayden, Tim Butterworth, Ben Reynolds, Tom Cleary, Matthew Rainbird, Liam Grace, Alex Blair, Michael Badcock, Simon Spencer.
COACH’S COMMENTS:
“We haven’t spoken about back-to-back flags at this stage and have just looked at our game plan over the year and tweaked a few things within that which will suit our playing group with a few new faces,” Aaron Cornelius said.
“There are only a couple of guys who will potentially debut on Friday night but the rest have played senior footy which is why we played a few of the younger boys last year to give them experience so that when the time came they were right to play at the highest level.
“We’re looking forward to Friday night to get the games underway and for us this year we’d like to finish in the top three and provide ourselves with an opportunity to play finals footy.”
CLARENCE
COACH: Jeromey Webberley
CAPTAIN: Brady Jones
LAST SEASON: Seventh (5-13)
INS: Jackson O’Brien (returning from SANFL), Michael Fisher (DOSA), Zac Mastrocola (University), Shane Bradford (Hobart), Ben McGuiness (DOSA), Harry Richmond (Lauderdale).
OUTS: Matthew Drury(retirement), Mitch Williamson (Hutchins) and Brad Tilbury (Hutchins), Rohan Bones (Bridgenorth).
COACH’S COMMENTS:
“We’re a little bit older and Jackson, Michael and Shane will add to the depth of our list so there will be some good competition for spots,” Jeromey Webberley said.
“I think if we can get our game up and going that we’ve been practising over the pre-season and be aggressive then that will set us up well. We finished seventh last year and were beaten by Glenorchy both times by over 100 points so were a fair bit off the pace.
“We’ve got some guys back from injury this year and guys like Jackson O’Brien and Michael Fisher will really add to our list so we will be looking to earn the right to play finals.
“Everything is going well with my shoulder after 12 months off and I’m really looking forward to round 1.”
TIGERS
COACH: Aaron Vince
CAPTAIN: Tim Peterson
LAST SEASON: Last (2-16)
INS: Mitchell Carter (WA), Cameron Johns, Cam Woolley, Hayden Crack (Huonville), Ryan Rinaldi (returning), Toby Cowen (Cygnet), Ben and Huw Graham (Sandy Bay).
OUTS: Jordan Roberts (Lauderdale), Daniel and Adam Golding and Luke Graham (Huonville).
COACH’S COMMENTS:
“I’ve been around the footy club for a few years and have been an assistant to Adam Hendley and know most of the players so the transition from my viewpoint has been fairly easy,” new coach Aaron Vince said.
“We’re coming off a poor season but won’t measure this year by wins and losses. We’ll measure it by how well we improve as a group and we still have aspirations to try to make finals for the first time and we think we have the side this year to compete with a good core group of young players that have grown from another year.
“We’re not going to use the excuse that we’re a young footy club anymore and it’s time for those young blokes to step up and be excited to be playing senior footy.
“We’ve tweaked the game plan a little bit and we want to move the footy quickly because we believe we have good leg speed and we’re fit enough and have worked on developing our skills under pressure.”
LAUDERDALE
COACH: Darren Winter
CAPTAIN: Bryce Walsh
LAST SEASON: Fourth (10-7)
INS: Jordan Roberts (Tigers), Josh McGuiness (Brisbane), Max Klevercamp (Dandenong Stingrays)
OUTS: Jack Siggins, Kaine Waller, Michael Cassidy, Nick Dodge, Ryan Sweet, Ryan Wiggins, Adam Duggan, Weston Tate-Turvey, Alex Sweet, Jamie Dilenno, Josh Roberts, Zac Plant.
COACH’S COMMENTS:
“We’ve developed our kids over a number of years and we’ve got to the stage where we had a more senior experienced list but to be honest we’re probably back to where we bring the next group of kids through and we plan to do that this year and get a few games into them,” Darren Winter said.
“Josh McGuiness comes back from Brisbane and will bring a bit of experience as will Max Klevercamp as a couple or replacements but most of our ins will be from kids coming from our under-age programs.
“We still have finals on our radars and we want to make finals and have a crack at it.
“We certainly don’t think that we will drop down but we know we have our work cut out for us this weekend against North Launceston who will be very strong this year.”
HOBART CITY DEMONS
COACH: Kane Richter
CAPTAIN: Hugh Williams
LAST SEASON: Sixth (6-11-1 draw)
INS: Nic Hutchinson (Lindisfarne), Kyle Wisnieski, Paul Barrett, Travis Harling (Darwin).
OUTS: Gareth Delaney, Jake Briggs (DOSA), Matt Doran (NEAFL), Ben Johnston (Melbourne).
COACH’S COMMENTS:
“We’ve changed quite a bit through our environment both on and off the field,” Kane Richter said.
“We’re keen on improving on last year and continuing the improvement we showed.
“Our back half of last season was pretty good and the boys have improved the standards about how they train and what they expect of each other.
“We’re definitely looking at playing in September and the boys are keen on not standing for mediocrity anymore.
“Glenorchy will be a big test first up as reigning premiers – we’re looking for a fast start and a great opportunity to take a step forward in terms of where we want to be at the end of the year.”
