Phil Malkin, husband to Tach and father to Charlea and Beau, died of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2015, leaving behind “a final wish and a hope”, according to Tach.
The family have worked closely with the Leukaemia Foundation ever since, running the independent fundraiser Phil’s Dive for a Cure.
This year the fundraiser, held in Bicheno in January, raised $44,000 for cancer research. The Malkin family presented the cheque to the Foundation’s general manager Ash Knop at a presentation in Launceston on Friday.
Last year’s grant recipient, Dr Jess Holien from St Vincent's Institute of Medical Research, gave a well-received presentation on the research funded by Phil’s Dive for a Cure.
