Night photographer Nik Schubert captured a time-lapse of the mountain lit up by the stars and the Aurora Australis, or southern lights, which has drawn the interest of the broadcasters.
The footage was taken in 2015 and Mr Schubert posted it to a BBC Flickr page.
This week he was contacted through the photo-sharing website by the BBC, who said it would like to include his video in the upcoming series Stargazing Live, showing on BBC and ABC.
“It was really really surprising actually because it was such an old contribution to them,” Mr Schubert said.
“The artistic beauty of the night sky is just something that has always really spoken to me.”
Mr Schubert said he has had a passion for the nigh sky for many years, and has spent countless hours exploring it and researching it.
“A lot of people say, ‘Doesn't it make you feel small when you think about how big space is?’ and I say, ‘Well no, it makes me feel special because we’re the ones who get to look at the rest of it’.”
The Sydney-based amateur photographer said he travels to Tasmania every year to take photos, after he discovered its natural beauty in 2013.
“Every time I’ve been to Tasmania the people are outstanding, the atmosphere is outstanding, and the landscape is the best I’ve ever seen,” he said.
He clearly remembers the night he took the time-lapse to be featured on television, and said he took it on his $300 dollar camera.
It doesn’t take expensive equipment to capture magical moments.
