The 6456 square metre track, first constructed in 1986, is undergoing routine resurfacing and work is expected to be complete by the end of April.
Once the resurfacing is complete, the track will be re-certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations and then re-opened for use.
The state government is supporting the project, through an $80,000 grant from its Communities, Sport and Recreation funding program.
The works include removing the old track surface, the laying of a new polyurethane running surface, and new line marking.
