“I ran stories bookshop down in Cimitiere Street for ten years and we closed in 2012. We were mainly a children’s bookshop and I have been dead keen to get back into the book industry,” owner Damien Morgan said.
“Birchalls didn't close because it was struggling, it was the family’s decision to close … we hope to fill that gap.”
Several Birchalls employees, including new shop manager Simon Easton and Birchalls’ former stationery manager Cheryl Brown, have joined Stories.
The store will open on April 22 at 75 St John Street.
“At the old Stories we had a lot of fun, we had Harry Potter breakfasts, fairy school, pirate school and story time sessions which we will get into again … but we will be a general bookshop, not just a children's bookshop,” Mr Morgan said.
Mr Easton said it was nice to be able to sell books and offer brilliant recommendations that people will enjoy.
“The imagination thing is [amazing], depending on what you are reading you can escape into another world,” he said.
“I didn’t want to go into anything other than book-selling and then Damien came along.”
There will be mostly books but a small educational and stationery section at the store.
