But the prospect of riding a penny farthing on Wednesday proved something of a challenge.
Jones and his fellow Nitro competitor Chris Haffey took up the challenge from The Examiner reader Cooper Hogarth to tackle the antiquated form of transport.
Haffey, who is more at home on a pair of roller blades, unashamedly admitted he was afraid of heights. So stepping up to the seat of a penny farthing took that phobia to all new heights – excuse the pun.
The world-renowned Nitro Circus will perform one Tasmanian show only at UTAS Stadium on Saturday night.
It will be the team’s first performance in Launceston and will feature freestyle motocross, BMX and skate stunts, boasting an awe-inspiring 20-metre high ramp as its centrepiece.
So how did riding a motocross bike compare with the much-less powerful penny farthing? “Once I got up there I was a little scared, but it was a lot of fun,” Jones said.
