Basketball Tasmania held the first of their regional tri-series for under-12 and under-14 teams in their future development program and state development program for under-16s and under-18s, at Kingborough Sports Centre last weekend.

“The athletes in those programs train on a weekly basis within their regions and then they come together for some camps and this competition as well,” BTas chief executive Chris McCoy said.
“It is a good chance to put in place things they have been training on over the duration of the 12 months. “
The second round will be held in Launceston on Saturday, May 13 and the third in Devonport on Saturday, June 24. Forty-four teams and about 300 players took part in the opening round.
“They all looked really smart in their uniforms and gives our referees a higher-standard competition to officiate at as well and it is great for coaching development too with a lot of BTas network coaches involved,” McCoy said.
