The 15-year-old Riverside High student lost his semi-final but twice defeated South Australian Carlos Carisimo in the bronze medal ride over three laps of Sydney’s Dunc Gray Velodrome to make the podium behind Victorians Graeme Frislie and Sam Gallagher.
Tasmanian management said Lawson’s hard-earned bronze medal was due reward for the team which wore the state colours with pride, rode their hearts out and produced numerous personal best times.
In his third year at the event, Lawson also came fifth in the individual time trial and sixth in the scratch race.
Other Tasmanian results included Lachlan Spurr and Jack Menzies finishing seventh and 13th respectively in the under-15 boys’ scratch race while the girls’ under-17 event saw Anna O'Rourke finish 16th, Amy Wright 17th and Meg Lamplugh 19th.
Tasmania was sixth in the under-17 men’s team pursuit while the time trial finishes were O'Rourke 14th, Lamplugh 20th, Wright 24th, Tristan Aylett 20th, Oscar Varney 21st and Cam McPherson 24th.

“No bikes still after 5 days! Really disappointed. #ThisIsAJoke,” Tweeted Cure, who had won two golds in Cali.
