Resuming at 1-1, chasing the Eagles first innings total of 174, South lost James Lee to be 2-1 and when captain Alec Smith and Charlie Eastoe both went for 13 they found themselves in dangerous territory at 4-33.

Mark Nutting was dismissed next for 18 to leave them 5-57, but Casey Young and Jeremy Jackson then set about rescuing the innings and putting them on the path to victory.

Jackson top scored with 63 and Young made 56 as the pair put on an 89-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

The Knights were 6-146 when Young was dismissed but Jackson and Jared Dakin held strong to see them home with Dakin finishing not out 55 – Jackson, Young and Dakin all scoring maiden first-grade half-centuries.

South batted out the day to finish at 8-260 to claim valuable points to cement their second spot on the ladder with a bye to come in the final round.

“It was a fantastic win today and to bat the whole day as well,” coach Nutting said.

“Obviously to have some other contributors with the bat in Casey and Jeremy and young Jared Dakin as well and it was very pleasing for those guys to score their first A-grade 50s and contribute to the win.

“We were under the pump at one stage and to end up batting the day and making 260 eight down was great and something we’ve been looking for with other contributors with the bat lower in the order.”

Westbury recorded a massive 220-run victory over Riverside in their match at Windsor Park.

Chasing the Shamrocks big first innings total of 4-329 declared, the Blues were never in the hunt as their top order collapsed in the face of some good bowling by the Westbury attack.

They slumped to 5-29, losing Lyndon Stubbs for four, Tom Garwood for 12, Lyndon Dakin, Jack Williams and Ollie Woods all for ducks as Jacob Kooran picked up three wickets in the one over on his way to impressive match figures of 5-21, of his nine overs.

The Blues managed to reach 109 all out off 42.2 overs with Peter New and Nick Garwood top scorers with 19 apiece and Sam Lockett making 18.

Westbury captain Michael Lukic was the other multiple wicket-taker for the Shamrocks picking up economical figures of  2-10, from his nine overs of left-arm spin, with five maidens.

Riverside reached 3-82 off 23 overs in their second dig before the respective captains agreed to call a halt to proceedings with New finishing 50 not out.
