While it was a cool summer, the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest climate outlook predicts autumn will be warmer than average.
It is also likely to be drier than average, with high pressure over western and southern Australia resulting in fewer rain-bearing systems hitting the state.
This follows a trend of drier autumns that has been observed over the past two decades, with 22 of the past 26 years having below average rainfall.
It will be generally warmer with daytime maximum temperatures likely to be higher than normal from March to May, as well as minimum temperatures
The bureau said in addition to natural causes, the increasing global air and ocean temperatures are influencing weather patterns.
