One of its founding doctors will head a new diabetes clinic in Launceston. 

An email sent to patients from the Seaport Medical staff and management team said the business closed due to the founding doctors having recently announced their departures. 

“The practice, including Dr Imran Aslam, Dr Caroline Stewart and Seaport’s management team will be relocating to the Kings Meadows Family Doctor Service … from Monday, February 27 ...  As a patient, you have the opportunity to continue treatment with these doctors or any of the current doctors at the Kings Meadows Family Doctor Service who will have access to your medical records,” it said.  

“If you choose to transfer to another practice, the staff at Kings Meadows Family Doctor Service will happily transfer your records upon request.”

Dr Gary Kilov, who co-founded the Seaport clinic, said he was as surprised as others by the sudden closure. Dr Kilov no longer owns the practice, and said ownership of the practice was transferred about 18 months ago. However, Dr Kilov will lead the team at the Launceston Diabetes Clinic at the Health Hub at the Launceston Medical Centre on Wellington Street.

He will be joined and supported by a number of his Seaport colleagues and staff.

Dr Kilov’s intention is to transition into managing diabetes and its accompanying conditions. 

He said he will continue to see his Seaport general practice patients at the hub while that eventuates. Seaport patients could discuss transferring their records with their new practices, he said. 

The Launceston Diabetes Clinic will open on March 6.
