The West Australian was best known for his role as navigator for Mike Moylan in the big booming 7.0 litre Ford Galaxie that proved very popular with rally fans as it was wrestled around the tight and twisty Tasmanian Roads.
Prior to the Galaxie, the team ran a Falcon for six years before which was affectionately referred to as a ‘block of flats’.
Altogether the duo contested 15 Targa Tasmania events, as well as other tarmac rallies, and the great friends always competed for the sheer enjoyment it gave them.
Chance was a Labor member in the WA parliament for 15 years and held the portfolio of Minister for Agriculture for eight years.
He is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Cereden, son Tomas and two grandchildren to whom the tarmac rally fraternity extend their deepest sympathy and love.
