Duck Shooting
AS THE duck shooting season approaches, it is worth considering this most appropriate verse penned many years ago by poet Ogden Nash (1902-1971) on the subject:

“The hunter crouches in his blind
‘Neath camouflage of every kind,
And conjures up a quacking noise
To lend allure to his decoys.
This grown-up man with pluck and luck,
Is hoping to outwit a duck”.

Kings Meadows traffic
I AM writing regarding the traffic management disaster at Kings Meadows. Recently we have had two lanes changed into one in Hobart Road. It is another major frustration to many road users.
It turned a very busy road into a total nightmare. If you are sitting outside McDonalds and are waiting to turn right into Hobart Road, you must be prepared to sit through a change of the lights.
The traffic in Hobart Road now has to fit into one lane this causes the backup. It worked much better the way it was. Everyone just used the zip rule to mingle with the rest of the traffic.
Maybe we can give the council the benefit of the doubt. Was any study done on the traffic? Have the road sensors been installed? Remember Normanstone Road?
All the work and the painted lines and marking and it was as for nought and had to be re-done. Total waste of ratepayers’ money. Just fix it now.
M. Fox, Launceston.
CH Smith Appeal
THE Examiner’s editorial (February 16) is spot on. We don’t want anymore delays on this redevelopment, it’s been a millstone around our city’s neck for far too long. The heritage protection society is a small unrepresentative group.
Having looked down on the decaying buildings of the CH Smith site for the past 10 years, we applaud Errol Stewart and Scott Curran for their initiatives, which I know the overwhelming majority of Launcestonians fully support. We all expect this farcical appeal will be summarily dismissed with minimal delays to the redevelopment.
