Light Talks is a culmination of O’Connor’s photographic works.
“I’ve been photographing for years since I was a child with dad. But I’ve really only been doing it for real since I went back to uni and did a Bachelor of Contemporary Art. I graduated in 2015,” O’Connor said.
The exhibition showcases O’Connor’s extensions of her photographs since graduating, including works on aluminium and acrylic glass.
“Originally I was doing quite a lot on aluminium, I still use it. I like the brushed aluminium in particular because it gives a brushed effect and I can create the work to suit what I’m printing on,” she said.
“Aluminium needs something that requires a specific type of image, it can handle real colour. But it needs to have a shade of light to dark.
“Then acrylic came in and they really do bounce with colour. For a lot of them I use a fish eye lens and play with them in the camera and I play with the light to create the images.”
O’Connor said she also does a lot of ‘threaded works’.
“The images are printed to paper. Then I hand stitch and embroid them to turn them into a new design all together,” she said.
Light Talks is on until March 25.
