It is the first time a school ensemble has been asked to join the TSO at the event. The band has been busily practicing in the lead-up to the performance, ever since school went back a few weeks ago.
“We’re a support act, playing from 6pm to 6.30pm,” Scotch’s head of visual and performing arts Stephen King said.
“They’ve been flat out practicing. There’s a mixture of excitement and terror amongst the students about playing in front of, I think it’s about 5000 people.”
The band will play a mix of big band jazz, rock and funk music.
“It’s a credit to them that they can be ready for something like this so early in the year,” Mr King said.
This year’s RACT Symphony under the Stars will be held at City Park on Saturday evening. It features conductor Jessica Cottis and saxophone soloist Amy Dickson.
