The incident occurred just after 2pm on the Brooker Highway, from Hobart towards New Town.
Police say the ambulance was operating emergency lights and sirens and was in the right lane approaching Cleary’s Gates.
A motorcycle was speeding and tailgaited the ambulance, nearly causing a crash when the ambulance had to brake.
Police say the motorcycle overtook the ambulance on the right side of the road, between the ambulance and the concrete barrier, causing several other vehicles to narrowly avoid a crash.
An unmarked police vehicle travelling behind the ambulance was able to intercept the motorcycle.
Police ask any witnesses to the incident to contact Hobart Police on 131444 or call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
Police say the dangerous driving of the motorocycle put the paramedic driving the ambulance, and other roader users, in danger, and reminded road users of their obligations to move out of the way of an emergency vehicle operating emergency lights and sirens, and not to follow emergency vehicles closely.
