The afternoon kart racing kicked off proceedings with Luke Redpath winning the 125s, Louis Maney the seniors and Cooper Stuart the juniors.
As the racing was scheduled to get underway on the main track a shower of rain passed through and delayed proceedings, with officials scrambling to catch up time throughout the night.
The state junior sedan title was always going to be a hotly contested affair. Queensland young gun and defending champion Ardie Jonic and Joe Dickerson dominated from the front row but on lap 13, Dickerson’s car tipped onto two wheels and careened into the wall ending both their races.
Australian champion Angus Hollis inherited the lead and drove solidly to the win ahead of Tasmanian Jakobe Jetson. With three laps to go, Ellis Dickenson passed Jesse White for third. Dylan Price lost a wheel just after the race ended and rolled spectacularly.
The sprintcars final will be discussed for a long time.
Chris Johns was leading and when he spun on lap 18 and Kurt Luttrell, Mark House and Jason Redpath all spun to avoid contact. Sprintcar rules state that if you require a push car to restart you are sent to the rear.
So with the top four at the rear Jason Dawkins used a clear track to full advantage to win from Scott Bissett and Bruce Pitt.
The Dean Fraser memorial had a small but fast field. Josh Marston qualified on pole position but was passed on the outside by Matt Farrell who took a solid victory.
Marston drove well for second ahead of Brendan Mitchell.
The street stock maiden race for drivers who have yet to win in this highly competitive arena was dominated by Brian Morice ahead of Brad Thomson and Emerson Leonard.
