The booth would allow Northern Premier League Tasmania games to be “more efficiently” recorded.

The upfront capital costs, of about $4000, would be covered by Launceston City Soccer Club, with work being completed by the organisation and “donated time and materials from volunteers”.

The annual upkeep of the booth was estimated to be about $900 explained in the application. A life cost of about $9000 was also estimated over the expected 10-year duration of the booth.

It is a requirement of the Premier League to film the games. 

Launceston City Soccer Club president Austen Fagen said the ability to record games was very important coaching situations for building strategies and moving towards success for the club. 

“The media stand at Prospect Park will enable streaming of our games and enable some video footage for all our NPL games so we can look at the video and work out an assessment of what happened,” Mr Fagen said.

Mr Fagen said players will also wear GPS units in the upcoming season for coaching purposes. 

The club had previously used  marquee. 

“We had weather situations and the marquee we were using was on the wrong side of the ground. So when the sun went down we were actually moving the booth over to the Eastern side for when the the sun goes down so it doesn’t affect any of the viewing,” Mr Fagen said.  

“It’ll be away from the wind and rain and it’ll be a lot safer for everyone involved.

Mr Fagen believes no other sporting facility in the North has a media booth. 

There was no community consultation, but Fagen thanked the Meander Valley Council.

“The council has been very helpful in progressing the game by allowing it to be put in,” he said.

The start date for the construction hasn’t been set. 

“It’ll be going in shortly, it’s been approved, so we’re hoping to get it in over the next four weeks or so,” Mr Fagen said.
