Fruit trees and herbs were torn out of the garden last week and tyres around the plants were removed.

The trees were planted in August last year as part of a project by the Rocherlea Action Group who hoped to build community spirit and provide free fruit to residents.

Less than a month after the garden was established, 40 metres of fencing and a dozen star pickets were stolen.

While donations from the community saw the pickets replaced, the group was still left out of pocket and forced to build a new fence.

Rocherlea Action Group president Robert Clarke said he was disappointed to be sharing news of “senseless vandalism” for the second time.

“I would like to say we have some good news … a lot of time, money and effort has been put into this project to help the residents of Rocherlea to have access to free fruit and vegetables,” Mr Clarke said.

“It is quite disheartening to say the least … we did report to the local police.”
