Since forming in 2013, the Penguin four-piece has shared the stage with dance trio The Potbelleez and Sydney group The Lazys, and will claim another big scalp next month when they play alongside Luca Brasi at Beat Fest.

Frontman Alex French said the prospect of playing alongside one of Tasmania’s most successful groups was “unbelievable”. 

“We started off in a high school music room and one of the teachers there encouraged us to start writing our own stuff, his name was Ben Murfet and he was the main reason we ended up writing our own stuff and realising how much we loved it,” French said. 

“When we're together we just have so much fun and we have a good chemistry together and we just love playing our songs.”

French is anticipating a special atmosphere at Beat Fest, which is aiming to raise $40,000 for the Pancare Foundation. 

“We're always super stoked to play but this has a next level feeling to it.

“We've just played a fundraising gig for Kawasaki disease and the overall atmosphere at an event like that just seems to be a little bit different.

“Everyone’s there for the same reason and it feels good to be a part of something that you know is going to help out people who really need the help.”

Beat Fest will be held at Hotel Tasmania on March 18.
