Run by Hobart’s Blue Cow Theatre, Frida and Derek will make its way to the green expanses of Launceston’s Hatherley House on March 18 before touring locations in the state’s South until April.
Director Robert Jarman said that while the two characters were vastly different, their lives also shared some striking similarities.
“Frida was a young woman who was interested in painting but had a horrific accident when she was young… but went on to have this incredibly successful career,” Mr Jarman said.
“On the other hand you've got Derek Jarman who was a bit of a rebel and an outsider during the time of the Thatcher government.
“The thing they have in common was that they both championed outsiders, they were both incredibly influential artists and they both maintained beautiful gardens… which is why we're trooping around the state performing in gardens.”
