The four teams that were fighting out the fourth position on the ladder before Saturday’s games are still fighting it out, with only 12 points separating them, and the losses by Penguin and Devonport has opened up the chase once again.
Big scores were the order of the day with the Sam McLean-rink leading the way with their 31-19 shot margin over Shane Buckley. That win was negated by Aaron Jago who won 29-17 against Tony Sutton.
This left it to the remaining two rinks to decide the outcome. For the Robins Eden Moore won 33-25 while the Ports Rod Everett got the better of Mick Oliver by two.
Penguin managed to hold onto fourth position on the ladder despite being on the end of a good old-fashioned thrashing by ladder-leader Burnie, losing to the Tigers on all rinks by 37 shots.
It was the first loss at home for the season by Penguin, with Mark Nitz defeating Julian Brown 26-12 to set up the win, while not far behind was the David Gamble, Joe Simpson, David Gewin, Jake Wyllie rink, who won 30-17 over Wayne Manson.
The Two Blues can consider themselves lucky to still be in the four as their nearest rival for the position Devonport also went down but only by the solitary shot against South Burnie.
For South Luke Richardson defeated Ben Fidler by 15 shots to once again reinforce the strong belief that Richardson is at the forefront of bowlers here on the Coast.
His father Ricky also had a good day winning 25-16 over Dean Martin.
As has been the case over the last few weeks it was left to the Tristan Bakes and Leon Webb rinks to fly the flag for the Pies.
As predicted Spreyton were no match for Latrobe, going down by 44 shots.
Colin Griffiths defeated Murray Baulch 38-12, and not to be outdone, Philip Mundy also went on a scoring spree to the detriment of Tony Dickson with Mundy winning by 22 shots.
Greg Douce had a much harder game, eventually winning 23-19 over Mike Higginson.
For the Eagles the consistent Ian Moore, Grant Ollington, Darren Hamilton and Phillip Cornick rink won by eight over Anthony Johns.
IN DIVISION One Wynyard and Latrobe once again traded places on the ladder with Wynyard going down to second bottom side Ulverstone by two shots.
Latrobe won by five shots after sharing the rinks against Turners Beach and the win was enough to give them top billing for this week.
Latrobe’s Daryl Butler kept his unbeaten record alive with a two-shot win over David Petrie.
Burnie took Penguin indoors and annihilated them by 78 shots with Anthony Harris winning 47-17 and Nathan Poke winning 32-13. Jamie Pennington was almost as effective winning 31-14.
Devonport dented South Burnie’s aspirations with a 20-shot win sharing the rinks.
