A normally quiet and calm property just outside of Launceston became a temporary home to about 7000 people on Friday as Party in the Paddock started its biggest installment.

In its fifth year, festival director Jesse Higgs said this year’s event was the biggest, growing by 2000 people.
“It’s all the best bits from five years ago, just on steroids,” Higgs said. “The site has grown, the stage, the campsite and the audience has grown too.”
The festival team is aiming to keep the festival’s atmosphere the same, despite the growth.
“This isn’t a profit-making experience for us. It’s more of a tribute to a friend who passed away and it’s also a great opportunity to pull the community together,” Higgs said. “We really hope punters to take time and effort to become part of the atmosphere. We will be keeping our eye out for any bad behaviour … and will be making an effort to maintain our great history.”
The Bennies, Montaigne, Luca Brasi, Pacers, Tash Sultana and The Smith Street Band performed on Friday.
