But there's no doubting that February 17's release Postcards From The Shell House sees the duo produce some of their best work to date, on what is a consistent if not systematic collection of songs.
Since announcing themselves in 2011 with feel-good single Biding My Time, which went on to win an ARIA award and poll at number 81 in the Triple J Hottest 100, the pair have cemented their own sound; showcasing elegant vocal harmonies atop upbeat acoustic guitar work.
That winning formula is again brought to the fore on Postcards from the Shell House.
Opener Best Part of Me is instantly catchy, boasts a compelling chorus and is already receiving well-deserved radio play.
Paint This Land successfully layers banjo, harmonica and didgeridoo, while Living In a Town would be right at home on a Josh Pyke record, combining nostalgia-invoking storytelling with a musical score packed with major-7 chords.
The album’s penultimate track Sleep On It comes as a welcome change of pace, setting aside the guitar in favour of piano and featuring guest vocals from Brisbane singer-songwriter Nat Dunn.
Well worth a listen.
