Taking the Friday off will ensure a four-day weekend but would result in lost productivity which is expected to be estimated at $62 million nationally.
TCCI chief executive Michael Bailey said it absenteeism on days wedged inbetween public holidays and weekends made it very difficult for businesses to operate.
“Having said this, we are pretty used to such issues in business,” he said.
“Floating holidays such as Anzac Day and Australia Day present these issues from time to time.
“The most important thing is for business owners and managers to talk to their staff and ensure that they understand their responsibilities as employees and that there may be repercussions if they just don’t show up for work.”
