The plans for the redevelopment of 16 to 24 Charles Street, Canal Street and the adjoining road reserves, include a car par, café, bar and alterations to the existing heritage-listed buildings to accommodate offices.
It will also include the construction of a building extension to accommodate offices and a subdivision for the construction of a single and multistorey car park.
The council agenda said the Tasmanian Heritage Council issued a decision on December 21, which consented to the works subject to a number of conditions, including the retention of the old signage painted on the southern wall of 24 Charles Street, except the lower section of the wall below the word ‘Blue’.
Eight representations about the development were sent to the council.
“Subject to the recommended conditions, it is considered that the proposal complies with the scheme and it is appropriate to recommend for approval,” wrote director of development services Leanne Hurst.
