Tasmania Fire Service were alerted about 2pm.
Six remote area firefighters are being flown to the area by helicopter.
A staff member from the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment’s orange-bellied parrot program is also enroute, with fledgling birds known to nest nearby.
“The origin of the fire is unknown at this stage [and] the fire is currently contained within the shed,” a Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman said.
“It is hoped the fire can be extinguished this afternoon.”
Melaleuca is located in Tasmania’s far South-West, with access only by foot, boat or air.
